Once
a year, young singers from all over the world meet in Busseto, a small town in
Italy for the contest of the Verdi Voices: Voci Verdiane.
There are innumerable sing contests all over the world but there is only one Voci Verdiane. This is a challenge for all young Verdi Voices. Great opera singers such as Luciano Pavarotti and José Carreras have started their career as winners of Voci Verdiane.
The
central theme of our film unfolds with atmospheric impressions showing the
contest. We see the preparations at the theatre and get to know some of the
participants, learn about their expectations and hopes.
The
contest lasts for four days. More than 100 singers sign for the competition.
About 30 reach the semi-finals, only 10 the finals.
The
film accompanies the singers from the beginning to the end of the contest and
reflects the special atmosphere of the Teatro di Verdi during that time. We
concentrate on a few protagonists and the process of selection. We experience
the excitement on the first day, see great
happiness as well as deep disappointment at being eliminated.
“Voci
Verdiane” is a film about hope and big dreams and the tension between
confidence and disappointment, but above all about beautiful voices and the
wonderful music by Giuseppe Verdi.
