Alice Sommer is 103 years old and lives in London. She has seen WW I, hyper inflation, depression, WW II, the Holocaust, Liberation, Communism and the building of the State of Israel. In the 1930´s Alice Sommer was a famous pianist and held numerous concerts in Europe´s capitals.
The music helped her to survive the ghetto of Terezin and to recover from losing her husband and almost her entire family. She is fluent in Tchech, German, English, French and Hebrew and she still pays the piano every day for three hours, preferably Chopin and Schubert. Why them? “Because Chopin has saved me”, she replies.
