With the ascend of Mount Everest, life changed in the Khumbu region: Sir Hillary built schools and hospitals, the Sherpas began to travel abroad, brought new technologies home. The biggest change was the installation of a small water power plant, built by the Austrian government and inaugurated in 1995. In now belongs to and is managed by the Sherpa community.

The film follows three Sherpa friends in their home villages – the brothers Mingma and Ang Danu from the village Khumjung and their cousin Phinjo from Namche Bazar, main village on the Everest trekking route.

All three are involved in the development work in their region. Their characters and thinking are very different: Ang Danu wants to stay in the “peaceful” Khumbu region, Phinjo lives in Kathmandu and can’t imagine going back to the village but occasionally, Mingma longs to go back to Europe where he studied.
